The New York Psychotherapy Collective Inc. was founded in 1996 by a group of psychotherapists in New York City, including our Director Ami B. Kaplan, LCSW.  We are a "group without walls", meaning a selection of psychotherapists throughout the city participate in the collective, and all have their own private practices.

The admissions criteria are probably the most stringent of all the referral services in New York. Only therapists with Post-Graduate training from an accredited Institute are admitted (such as a psychoanalytic institute). In addition, we consider ourselves the best in the city, so membership is also based on reputation. Psychotherapists who don't have a good reputation don't get in our collective. We keep track of patient feedback about our clinicians and we take it seriously.

Compared to other referral services our panel is small, because our concern is quality, not financial gain. We run on a very small budget. We strive to maintain a panel that is diverse in its specialties and psychotherapeutic orientations. We know we are doing something right because we keep getting more calls from people who heard about us from friends who have used our service.
